ADVANCED MEASURES
CLASS OF 2014 ONLY
REQUIREMENTS
Students entering the Global Languages Academy must complete three years of a primary langauge and two years of a secondary language. Students must also complete a half credit of a global studies course.
Students must select two languages from the following offerings:
Spanish, German, French, HIndi, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, and Latin.
To remain in the Global Languages Academy students must:
1. Pass all TAKS
2. Maintaing an 80 average in all languages casses, and a 75 average in all other classes.
3. Meet the 90% attendance rule set by the State of Texas.
Students can complete an additonal year of their primary language and take the AP exam.
All Academy students are reponsible to complete three out of seven potential advanced measures. The advanced measures are in place to ensure a well rounded academic experience. The advanced measures are listed in this section of the web page. Students must claim these measures by completing the forms for the advanced measures they will be completing. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE to complete these forms to recieve credit. Failure to do so will result in not graduating from the GLA.
Teach a global language in the elementary summer school program, or after school program. Be sure to complete a LOG if you are selected to teach.
Travel in your primary language or your secondary language if your primary is Arabic, or Hindi. Students must have the travel or program approved if it is not a GLA approved travel program. Students must complete a travel blog. If you are a student and will be completing this advanced measure then please fill out the form online and submit.
Compete in a language contest for two years. Students must compete in school language competitions and must compete for two consecutive years. Turn in this FORM in addition to the online form.
Students must maintain membership in a language NHS or club for a total of three years. Turn in this FORM in addition to the online form.
Act as a GLA Mentor to incoming GLA students for one year. Mentors will be responsible to be available to incoming GLA students. Mentors who serve from 2012 and beyond must submit communication logs.
Students who participate in GLA Council for two years will recieve an advanced measure credit. In order to recieve credit students must:
1. Attend eight meetings in a school year.
2. Participate on one permanent committee, or two temporary committees a year.
